A newbie in the EMPIR world
Taking great ideas from the lab to the market
In January 2017 Minerva received an invitation to participate in a first brainstorm meeting among innovative companies at the Dutch National Metrology Institute (VSL). The purpose of this meeting was to make a list of innovative projects which might be qualified to be further developed under the umbrella of the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR). EMPIR is part of the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever (Horizon 2020) with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
Make research and innovation more competitive on a global scale

After the first brainstorm session and looking around what other ideas were initiated in the EMPIR community it became obvious to start working on dynamic quantities.
Talking to participants in a previous European dynamic pressure project (EMRP ind.09), I have learned a lot on current drop weight pressure generators and together with VSL we came up with an initial concept which fitted into the dynamic quantity initiative of the Finnish NMI, VTT Mikes. VTT Mikes aligned the ideas and capabilities of 8 NMI’s and 4 non NMI’s in this project and achieved that this joint research project has been approved to become an EMPIR funded project.
Much work has been done despite COVID-19
On October 19 and 20, 2021 we conducted our final workshop which unfortunately still was mainly online. During the workshop I realized how fast time flies and how much work has been done by the consortium despite COVID-19.
