More Capacity, Same Standards: How Minerva Is Keeping Pace with Growing Calibration Demand

More Capacity, Same Standards: How Minerva Is Keeping Pace with Growing Calibration Demand

When a critical pressure standard comes off the shelf for recalibration, the clock starts. For calibration engineers and laboratory managers, any instrument out of service is a gap in measurement capability. This can affect production schedules, audit readiness, and in some cases, regulatory standing.

Minerva Metrology & Calibration responded to this reality by investing in its Amersfoort laboratory. The company expanded its ISO/IEC 17025-accredited pressure calibration facility, adding fully automated piston gauge systems. This boosts throughput while maintaining required precision and traceability.

This is a practical, not flashy, investment. Growing calibration volumes and tighter turnaround times made it necessary.

Why Calibration Volumes Are Increasing

Demand for accredited pressure calibration services is rising in aerospace, defence, pharmaceuticals, energy, and oil and gas. This growth comes from long-term industry changes, not short-term trends.

Organisations now manage larger instrument fleets. Quality requirements are stricter. Regulations, such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and GMP, are more specific about calibration intervals and traceability.

Few laboratories can service high-end pressure standards — piston gauges, precision pressure controllers, ADTS units, and instruments up to 5,000 bar. Calibration professionals with specialist instruments have limited and critical choices for accredited partners.

What the Investment Involves

The expansion adds fully automated piston gauge systems (devices that precisely measure pressure using weighted pistons) to Minerva's RvA-accredited laboratory (K048) in Amersfoort, which has held ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation since 1988.

Automated PG systems increase calibration throughput by eliminating manual steps while maintaining the repeatability and uncertainty levels required for precise calibration. They cover Minerva's entire accredited pressure range: 0 Pascal absolute to 5,000 bar.

The expansion keeps the calibration process unchanged. Accreditation scope and traceability remain the same. Only capacity increases, allowing Minerva to handle more volume without longer wait times.

What This Means in Practice for Calibration Professionals

Minerva’s 2026 customer survey showed that responsiveness and meeting turnaround commitments ranked highest, alongside technical expertise and quality. An NPS of +63 and a recommendation score of 8.9 out of 10 show customers trust Minerva for reliability and capability.

For calibration engineers, the benefits of the expansion are clear:

  • More predictable lead times during routine recalibration cycles and periods of peak demand
  • Greater flexibility for urgent calibrations and unplanned instrument repairs
  • Continued service continuity across a wide range of pressure standards, including DHI and Ruska piston gauges, Fluke Calibration instruments, and GE/Druck equipment
  • RvA-accredited certificates (Dutch Accreditation Council) recognised under ILAC MRA (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Arrangement), accepted across ILAC member countries.

Capacity Without Compromise

Raising throughput only works if calibration consistency is maintained. For a primary standard lab, this is essential.

Automated piston gauge systems reduce operator differences, deliver consistent results, and produce audit-ready measurement data required by ISO/IEC 17025-accredited labs.

This investment is simple: growing calibration volume should never compromise accuracy, traceability, or documented uncertainty.
